Fun with SWAGs: What Will 15.1 Be?

It's officially 2015 Open season, everyone, and that means one thing: making highly unlikely yet completely overconfident predictions about what the workouts will be.  This year we'll be unveiling the SWAG each week on the site, but the explanation of my thought process will be in the podcast for those who are interested (which should be all of you!).  My buddy and frequent commenter John Nail will join me each week on the podcast as we break down the prior week's workout and look ahead to what might be to come.

So without further ado, the official CFG Analysis SWAG for 15.1 (Rx'd division) is:

AMRAP 7 of burpee-box jumps (30"/24")

I encourage everyone to post your SWAGs to comments, since odds are you'll do better than me.

[NOTE 2/19/2015: I re-uploaded the podcast last night with the tracks mixed more evenly, so hopefully this fixes the issue that some listeners had with the original.]

  1. Haha, thanks for the shout out! I didn't even recognize it until I listened. With Froning and Fraser for 15.1, my money is on a weightlifting movement being a big part of the workout. They want to put on a show for the viewers. I'm also going with burpee box jumps but taking Team Series event 9. All of the athletes said it was brutal.

    14:00
    9-12-15...
    Burpee box jumps (24/20)
    Squat cleans (155/105)

  2. The podcast in iTunes is pretty much un-listenable. I can barely hear Anders at all. Thanks for putting it out, just an FYI.

    1. I can hear it fine on my iPhone, but my suspicion is it could have to do with the fact that we recorded this one with two separate mics, so my voice is entirely panned left. If your speakers are only playing the right channel for some reason, I could see how I'm silent.

That being said, I'll try to re-mix it when I get home tonight so that both voices are in the center.

Anyone else having issues hearing it?

  3. AMRAP 4
    100/65 lb 15 Thrusters
    15 Chest to bar Pull-ups

If 90 reps (3 rounds) are completed in under 4 minutes, time extends to 8 minutes.
If 180 reps (6 rounds) are completed in under 8 minutes, time extends to 12 minutes.
If 270 reps (9 rounds) are completed in under 12 minutes, time extends to 16 minutes.
    Etc.

  4. I also expect a barbell to be involved considering the athletes involved. I think it will be a slight repeat of the final event at the Games last year, double grace. I guess it will be AMRAP 8 of 135 pound clean and jerks.

  5. Well I am going in the direction of the Rx division being weighted (heh) towards a Regional type event. And considering the moose invited to demo 15.1... a heavy thruster wod.
    AMRAP 9
    7 thruster 135/95
    7 burpee over bar

  6. 11:00 Amrap:
    15 TTB
    21 Thruster 95
    * thruster weight increases each round. 95, 115, 135, 155, 175, 195...

    1. No Joshua - only where you are.
Where's your prediction?! Don't pretend you're not geeking out on CF like the rest of us.

  7. I must admit in hindsight I think you guys are right that there will be a barbell. Froning and Fraser going head to head without one would be lame.

  8. Couple of weeks ago I programmed 4:00 AMRAP of burpee box jumps (24") for today. After getting 41 reps, I can tell you that 7 minutes would not be very fun.

    1. Two or three years ago I did 100 reps for time at 24" and it took 13 or 14 minutes. The jumps become really, really hard after 50 or 60.

  9. 12 minute AMRAP
    Bar Facing Burpees/Deadlifts/MUs
    Rd 1 - 3/2/1
    Rd 2 - 4/3/2
    Rd 3 - 5/4/3, etc.
    DL weight is 315#

  10. It'll be really interesting to see how much tougher the RX'd division will be. I'll admit to reading through some of these predictions and thinking "they're not gonna put that weight or movement on the first WOD" but the RX'd division changes everything. Maybe they will have muscleups or heavy thrusters or 315 lb deadlifts. It's a whole new game now.

Since I have no idea......here's a wild ass guess:
    21-15-9
    135lb Snatches
    Burpee C2B pullups

  11. After talking it over with Dave Castro ....

    12 min AMRAP

    20 OHS 135/95
    30 box jumps 30/24
    40 double unders

Anders makes a good point about scaling. Every WOD must contain at least one element that can be scaled. We're likely to see the box height increase because, as we all know, step-ups are lame (how else would you scale a box jump?). I'm not entirely sold on the idea that Rich and Matt must mean heavy weight. They most likely will, but I think that's because Castro is putting on a show as well as programming for the open. Given that, i don't think the weight will be really heavy like 12.2.

    1. That's a good point that it doesn't have to be heavy. I remember when Lindsey V faced off against Annie I assumed they'd go heavy just to play into their wheelhouse but that WOD was pretty light and much more about engine than strength

  13. My husband and i felt so excited when Raymond could conclude his reports by way of the precious recommendations he received through the web page. It is now and again perplexing to just choose to be giving away thoughts that many other people could have been trying to sell. And we discover we've got you to be grateful to for this. The specific explanations you've made, the easy web site menu, the friendships you aid to foster - it is all superb, and it's making our son in addition to the family understand this subject matter is pleasurable, and that's quite indispensable. Many thanks for everything! Nursery curtains
